Stud earrings give the appearance of floating on the ear or ear lobe without a visible point of connection to the ear from the front. Studs are constructed on the end of a post, which penetrates straight through the ear. The post is held in place by a removable friction back or clutch. 
Clip-On Earrings are designed for people who do not have their ears pierced. The earring is held in-place by a clip on the ear lobe.
